Janka Hardness Chart Discussed
There are tons of different wood species used in hardwood flooring these days. It is a good idea to try and keep track of them, especially if you're looking to make a hardwood flooring purchase somewhere in the near future. One species of hardwood flooring that I don't think gets talked about nearly enough is Brushbox, which is why I've decided to dedicate this little piece to it.
Using the Janka hardness chart to buy like a pro
There are a few things you should know about Brushbox. First it grows naturally in Australia. It is a wood with a naturally glossy appearance that overtime, with exposure to sunlight, will redden and take on richer tones.
It is also one of the hardest tradewoods available and it lies near the top of the Janka hardness scale. Its rating on the Janka hardness chart is 2135 and just for the sake of comparison, Red Oak's Janka hardness rating is 1290, about half! This type of wood is so hard that special precautions must be taken to ensure that the wood can be worked with and installed properly. This durability will help the flooring last and flourish in your home for a very long time.
